Five Kimmy Facts

I am linking up with The Life of Bon for Five Facts about me!

First, sexy pic per the requirements:

Please note it was very hot under the camera lights, so I hitched my dress up and the photographer thought it was art! The stripper shoes are my favorite.

  1. I slept with a teddy bear until 2 years ago. In college- Mr. Bear was there, when I got married, Mt. Bear slept in between us. The hubs hated Mr. Bear and would punch him in the face whenever he got the chance. One sad day, I had some girls over & locked our cats in the bedroom. They apparently were mad and one of them pooped on poor Mr. Bear’s chest. I never slept with him again. I washed him, and he rests in peach in a Space Bag under the bed.
  2. In college, I thought it would be a good idea to shave my sideburns. It was not.
  3. I didn’t know what city I was born in until recently. My place of birth on my marriage certificate is wrong. I thought I was born in NY,NY, when in reality I was born in Port Jefferson, NY.
  4. In high school, my first car was struck by lightning (not while I was in it). My poor parents had the transmission and half the engine replaced before someone figured it out. (The antenna was melted down and the radio wouldn’t work)
  5. When I was a kid, we lived in Zachery, LA for a short while. The town was close to a prison and the prison would do an inmate rodeo to raise money. Zachery also had chain gangs & “posses”.

Hump Day Un-Funnies

I took a picture of myself in a swimsuit last night. Not. a. good. idea. At all.
Maybe I'll use it as my "Before" picture when I lose a bunch of weight.
Too bad I'm focusing on getting my wallet fat and not my body skinny. Those two things don't really go together. To lose weight, I always have to spend a ton on healthy food (and workout clothes to get me motivated and a Weight Watchers membership, etc ;)).

Well Hello Mr. Sun!

What is it about warmer weather after a cold front that gets everyone all giggly?
Today I decided to go outside to the corner CVS and get ready for Valentine's Day. I tore into this bag like the cats tear into E's turkey sandwich bags if he leaves it too close to the counter edge.

Conversation hearts are one of my favorite candies. I also love jelly beans and candy corn. Anything seasonal and nostalgic gets me.
Fortunately for me, everyone in the office deemed these the nastiest candies of all time. I like the taste though (except for the nasty yellow banana ones- that's just wrong), so more for me!
(I did put these in a cut little dish with a spoon).

Like the "Don't Tell" one showing. What does that even mean?

Do you like conversation hearts or other seasonal kiddie candy?

My Modeling Days

This weekend E and I joined Costo. And they took the worst picture of me. Ever. I blame the turtleneck.

I then decided that laughter is the best medicine (for the hubs) and why not take a walk down memory lane:

2003- passport.
I told you blonde and over-plucked eyebrows isn't a good look for me. I am also blaming the turtleneck and short Walgreen's clerk shooting up at me for this atrocious picture with double chin.

2008- VA Drivers License:
Short hair, little boys shirts, and orange skin also isn't a really good look for me.

2013- new work badge (pic taken in 2009)
Hubs says "you look like you just got hit in the face"

I also re-took my passport photo this weekend to get my passport renewed and guess what. That now might be the worst pic of me ever.  I decided to not smile to mix things up - not a good idea.

I also think that since I'm tall, when I stand for these doofy required photos, I need to tilt my chin down so as not to show off the double chin.

Sigh- what are your suggestions for a "good" picture.

Hump Day Funny

No joke, I think anything with animals is hilarious or too cute for words.

Whenever I want a laugh I head over to Icanhascheezburger.com

I also just discovered Workaholics on Comedy Central. E loves it and I always enjoy when we can watch a show we both enjoy together. Anyway, be warned, it's geared towards young men's humor (which is somehow what E has warped me into thinking is hilarious.) I also find South Park and The League equally as funny as Workaholics to give you an idea of my sense of humor.

Beauty Overload

Brown Budget Blown!(*only according to E) On what you ask? Nail polish of course.
Just kidding, nail polish is a budget necessity :)

I love this sparkly red nail polish by Essie. It makes me think of Dorothy’s ruby slippers.
E just doesn’t get sparkly, dark, grey, or any kind of trendy nail polishes. He wasn’t a fan of the bronze OPI.(Are there any men that appreciate these kinds of polishes?)
I’m a big fan of this colored eyebrow gel. I am a recovered over-plucker. This helps fill them out just a little more.
Seriously, the 2 best beauty things I have done in the past few years is let my hair go to its natural color (blond is not a good look for me) and let my eyebrows grow in.

Also, I won a giveaway and got this awesome 30 day face mask kit. I finally got to try it on my long weekend and I loved it! A 30 day kit with a face serum to keep using after- yes please.

What are some of your beauty must haves?

An Incomplete Childhood

Yes, my childhood and parents were great, but E recently brought to light something I missed out on as a youngster: the English Muffin pizza.
I never had (or heard of) an English Muffin pizza until recently.Meanwhile, E had one every day after school for a snack while I had to live with Tostadas and salsa while watching Baywatch.
The recipe is pretty easy- toasted English muffin, pizza sauce, and mozzarella.
E actually kicked it up  notch and we added a Morningstar Chik pattie for a version of Chicken Parmesan.

Happy MLK Day and Inauguration Day to my Federal homies. Enjoy your day off!

What's for Lunch?

Lunch is my favorite time of the work day (as it is for most). As much as I would love to have lunch in the cafeteria or local deli nearby daily, it's not good for my waistline nor my wallet, so I am a packer. I have been trying to motivate some of my other co-workers to do the same.
Here's what I do for a quick and healthy lunch:
Every Sunday, I hard boil a dozen eggs (those suckers last a long time).
Then, every evening, I pull out pre-shredded carrots, broccoli slaw, pre-washed bag o' spinach, and a red bell pepper.

I chop the bell pepper (the only chopping I do) and then throw a few handfuls of everything into a Tupperware. That with a hard-boiled egg and a yummy salad dressing I keep in the office fridge is lunch. Seriously takes 5 minutes or less.
Other easy items to throw in a salad is canned chickpeas, shredded cabbage, grape tomatoes, sunflower seeds,  Craisins, or sugar snap peas. For a guy, I would think more protein is better, so I would bake chicken breasts on Sunday for the work week.
I should also mention the salad isn't all I have- I do eat a lot of snacks through out the day too that are easy to take like Kashi bars, bananas, oranges, and yogurts.
 Happy brown-bagging.

P.S. I know my office mates don't love the smell of my farty eggs every day, but there are worse smells. That's probably why they escape to the cafeteria ;)

Hump Day Funny

Driving in the dark with E and something runs in front of our car.
K: Look, kiiiiitttty!
E: Get your eyes checked woman, that's the same damn raccoon you saw last night.

K: Aww, he just ran into the gutter too.
E: You're going to be one of those crazy old ladies petting your possum giving him cat treats.

 Ugh, so gross.

Is it Cheaper to Buy in Bulk?

This weekend I did a price comparison of Costco to Wal-Mart. E and I already know Wal-Mart is cheaper than the other grocery stores in our area, but we weren’t sure about Costco.
E drinks a homemade juice daily, which = a LOT of produce.

Reminds me of E on his way to the Jack LaLanne juicer... His chest doesn't look like that ;)

I converted the price to a per unit (or per oz.) cost then multiplied by the # of units or weight of the Costco product.
Here's what I came up with:
P.S. I need help converting Excel to an image to upload here :/

Costco membership is $55/ year, or $4.58/ mo. :)
So will we save money if we shop there at least one a mo. Yes, we saved $8.10 at this one trip alone by getting the big box of Cascade dish washing pods.

Variables (There's always a rub, right?):
  • Will we eat that box of 24 oranges or will they end up in the garbage?
  •  The Costco is so crowded and out of the way. We still would need to go to Wal-Mart for other items, so that’s 2 big grocery shops in a weekend. I I get a Wire DVD in the mail (or another show I'm obsessed with) it's doubtful I'll be leaving my nest.
What do you think- is a Costco (or other warehouse) membership worth it?

Weekend Wrap Up

Everyone’s working for the weekend, right? So, what do you do if all you do is work on the weekend?!  Clean, run errands, do laundry, go to the grocery store, etc.

Anyhoo, that’s what we usually do on the weekends, but this Saturday was different. And by different, do I mean we went to Costco to do an experiment (and no it’s not how many samples I can eat in 1 hour)?  Why yes I do. I’ll leave you in suspense as there will be more to come on this.

Sunday, we went to Eastern Market.
They have a flea market and also an arts & crafts section as well as lots of samples (this will be known as the weekend of samples.)
E was ELATED to find a local vendor with homemade pickles. Many pickle jokes ensued- two pickles at one, pickle party, you get the idea.

  E with his “precious”
Sigh- welcome back to the work week.

Full on Crazy Cat Lady

You know you're a crazy cat lady when you own an airbrushed cat t-shirt:

When you build cat playhouses with grocery bags and Costco boxes:

When people give you items with cats on them for Christmas:
Socks were courtesy of my FIL (he didn't want me to be jealous of my MIL's socks)
