Bimini Part 1

It all started with the Real Housewives of Miami. They traveled to Bimini Bay in the Bahamas which inspired my friend Lola to plan a girls trip there.
It’s not too easy to get here though! First, there are no flights to or from the island on Tue. and Wed. Secondly, you have to take a taxi from the airport to a water taxi, to another taxi that gets you to the resort. (Make sense?)
But here’s a view from the water taxi- not too bad right?

Since there were 9 of us, we got a little separated, so half the girls waited at the other side of the island for us. When I arrived in the second wave, the other gals had already made friends with our taxi driver- “the Big One”. On the dirt road to the resort, we passed many shacks but then it’s a different world as soon as we passed the resort gates.

The resort is sooo worth the travel:

 View from the living room:

You do need a golf cart to get around, so we went to the baby grocery store at the resort and rented golf carts. One of our tall friends, Brandi, (she’s taller than me) attracted the attention of a local man, Cornell, by the golf carts. He will make a reappearance ;)
Day 1 (Sun)
We drank sat at the infinity pool:

and then had a catered dinner – Housewives style. Cornell began to call our place to ask Brandi out for coffee. Love is blossoming.

Day 2 (Mon)
Snorkeling…. In a shipwreck and then swimming with the sharks.
Yea, we snorkeled up in there.

Several ladies took a cat nap, and I went with a few other girls into town. Cornell was our escort / guide in his pimped out golf cart (with flames & it played music).

On our outing, we met Ansel, a fisherman, who took Dr. Martin Luther King out to the Healing Hole to write a speech 3 days before he was shot. We also bought cookies at a local pastry shop and then homemade bread at Charlie’s.
Dinner was at Edith’s, a local restaurant, and our friends Cornell and Big One from the island joined us. Let me say, conch pizza and lobster pizza might be my new favorite foods.

More to come tomorrow! I'm still on Island Time.
